Apart from the usual Business Case reports that we help design ( See  Build Effective Business Case *Article* ) I have often been asked to give an alternative option for people who might find the first approach a little too complex. This is usually a less detailed subjective summary of the business case containing lesser heuristics for such business cases.  I usually advise business cases built on a certain road-map.

1.    Issues : involving the current application and technological issues
2.    Strategy : How the plan solves the above issues
3.    Opportunities : How is the product and the company positioned to address the above challenges
4.    Solutions : How the issues can be resolved
5.    Benefits : How the business benefits are quantified
6.    Action Plan : The approach that is established

This approach appears to be less cluttered and often hits the bulls eye while explaining the business case  succinctly (Don't forget that we live in times when people have an unussually short attention spans...;-))
